How an electrofusion joint is made

Fusion parameters live on the fitting, not in the fitter's memory. The cycle is machine-controlled, and it works in trenches, congested racks and tie-ins where a butt-fusion machine will not fit.

Internal bead
Butt fusionMolten material is pushed into a ring inside the bore at every joint, and stays there for the life of the line.
Heating coil
Anjney electrofusion, 200 to 630 mmA coil moulded into the fitting fuses pipe and fitting inside the socket. The bore runs straight through.
  1. Cut square and clean

Cut the pipe end at right angles and wipe it free of dirt and moisture.

  2. Scrape the surface

Remove the oxidised skin over the full insertion depth. Fusion bonds to fresh material, not to weathered surface.

  3. Mark and clean

Mark the insertion depth, clean the scraped area with approved wipes and let it dry.

  4. Insert and clamp

Push the pipe fully home to the stop, align it, and clamp so nothing moves during the cycle.

  5. Energise

The control unit reads the fitting's fusion parameters and runs the cycle. No operator judgement needed.

  6. Cool under clamp

Allow the full cooling time before removing clamps or applying load, then pressure-test.

Fittings questions

Which jointing method is used for which size?

Socket fusion from 20 to 160 mm on PPCH and PPRCT, and from 20 to 200 mm on PPH. Electrofusion from 200 to 630 mm on all three lines. We do not use butt fusion.

What pressure are the fittings rated for?

Moulded socket fusion fittings for PPCH and PPRCT from 20 to 160 mm are rated PN 25. For electrofusion and PPH fittings, give us your design pressure and temperature and we confirm the rating for the line.

Do you supply threaded fittings?

Yes, for PPCH compressed-air lines: male and female threaded adaptors and unions from 20 to 63 mm with ½″ to 2″ threads, and female threaded elbows and tees for drop points. We do not recommend threaded fittings in chemical service.

How do I connect to valves, pumps and tanks?

With a core flange (stub end) fused to the pipe and a step flange (backing ring) bolted to the equipment flange. Core flanges are socket fusion up to 160 mm (200 mm on PPH) and electrofusion from 200 to 630 mm.

Can I take a branch off an existing large header?

Yes. Branch adaptors take a branch of any relevant size off an existing line; on PPCH they connect to headers up to 315 mm.

Do you train our fitters?

Yes. We provide fitter training, jointing procedure sheets and commissioning support, and mark up joint positions on your layout.
