PPCH FR Pneumatic Piping comparison
PPCH vs aluminium pipe for compressed air
Aluminium push-fit systems install quickly, but every joint seals on an elastomeric O-ring. O-rings relax with vibration and thermal cycling, and leakage typically takes 20 to 30% of a compressor's output.

| Parameter | PPCH FR Pneumatic Piping | Aluminium pipe |
|---|---|---|
| Jointing | Socket fusion and electrofusion: homogeneous fused joint | Push-fit with O-rings |
| Leak path at joints | None: no elastomer to age | O-rings relax with vibration and temperature swings |
| Surface roughness, Ra | 0.1–0.3 µm | 0.7–1.0 µm |
| Hazen–Williams C | 145–150 | 130–135 |
| Wall conductivity | 0.135 Btu/hr·ft·°F | 27.09 Btu/hr·ft·°F |
| Corrosion | None | Corrodes in humid air |
| Maintenance | Nil | O-ring joints need periodic upkeep |
| Size range | 20–630 mm | Typically smaller bores |
What it means on your plant
No O-rings to fail
A fused joint is the same material as the pipe, so there is no seal to age or relax.
Less condensate
Aluminium conducts heat about 200 times better than PPCH, so it cools the air and drops more moisture.
Large bore covered
PPCH runs from 20 mm drops to 630 mm headers on one fusion system.
